Community Foundation web service matches area nonprofit needs with donor surplus itemsThere is nothing better than a good "closet cleaning" to close out a year. Individuals and businesses who are not sure what to do with items no longer wanted or needed are encouraged to search the Community Wish List at www.cfsea.org for a charitable organization that could benefit from donated items. The Community Foundation of Southeast Alabama provides the consolidated listing of needs of area nonprofit service agencies and cultural organizations in the Wiregrass region at no charge. The exchange of goods between donor and charitable organization provides a benefit to both parties. "The Community Wish List helps nonprofits further stretch their service delivery dollar and give prospective 'wish grantors' an easy way to identify those needs," said Valerie Barnes, Foundation vice president of community development. While the Foundation supports the work of all nonprofit organizations in our region primarily by establishing endowments and releasing grants from interest earned on the collection of endowments and other planned giving instruments, identifying innovative ways to help the nonprofit sector like the creation of the wish list are also a part of the overall mission of the organization, Barnes explained. Twenty-two area nonprofits have already posted their wish lists on the site, and wishes may be granted at any time by calling the agency in need. Other nonprofit service organizations are invited to visit the web site and explore the Community Wish List service. Organizations that would like to have their wish list posted must do so in writing to the Foundation, P.O. Box 1422; Dothan, AL 36302 or by fax to (334) 793-0627.
